It all started with a group of people hanging out in "Azur" restaurant in Ramallah. We were talking about some issues and problems facing our country, like cleanliness. Then one of us was like: "Why not doing something about it?" And that's exactly what happened, we started working to find solutions for this problem and thinking of ways to keep our country clean.
We started a group called "e7na elBalad" (meaning we're the people of this country), and started planning to raise awareness so people keep their country clean, the way they're keeping their houses clean. We wanted people to know how waste in the streets and close to their houses, is gonna affect their lives and health negatively.
While we were searching, we found this amazing video about a campaign that took place in Estonia, called "Let's do it" that cleaned the whole country in just one day. We loved the video, and thought of it as an inspiration and motivation to us.
After a while we met Bart, one of the co-founders of 1%Club and while we were talking we mentioned this initiative we're working on "e7na elBalad", and Bart told us he knew the people behind "Let's do it" and he connected us. That's when we decided to do the exact same thing they did in Estonia, here in Ramallah, and clean up Ramallah in one day! After that 1%Show hosted us to talk about our cool plan for 2012, and now the 1%Club people are helping us to get funding and help for our project.
"Let's Do it" team are organizing a campaign called "World Cleanup 2012", and now, Palestine is part of it. The aim of this campaign is to make a series of cleanups in different countries around the world. As it’s estimated that there’s approximately 100 million tons of illegal garbage lying around in the world. And if you look at this problem, waste is not only an aesthetic issue, it’s a health, cooperation and responsibility issue.
The aim of our campaign is to clean up Ramallah, and raise awareness and responsibility towards our country, and we're gonna need you in this. We can do nothing without you, and teh first step is to spread the word and tell everyone about it. Please like this page, and tell all your friends, cause soon enough we'll be needing your help.
